Rear hitch on new Rams

Recommended Posts

Silly me. Just discovered than my truck has a 2.5 inch hitch with a 2 inch adapter under the seat.

All my towing hitches are 2 inch.

Never had any experience using an adapter.

Anyone else have this on their newer Rams.

I noticed the same thing, it must be to reach the two ratings they advertise

The newer ford 350 and larger are 3" now. 21,000lb conventional towing without  weight distributing.

I have 2 adaptors to get to 2".

I cant decide to get a 3" Weigh safe scale hitch, or a B&W 3" Tow and Stow.

I use the adapter and continue to use my

2-5/16” ball on the 2” solid stinger with a four inch drop.

I didn’t see the benefit of buying 2.5” stuff for what I was pulling.

Mine had the sleeve adapter also.  If you don’t have one, Napa/Oreilky/Autozone should have em on the shelf.

The nice thing about the hitch is if you need an extension for towing with a camper or anything Reese and others I am sure has a very heavy duty 2.5 inch extension that accepts your 2 inch stuff and its rated for more weight at 24 inches out than my 02's factory hitch was rated at without an extension and it will take weight distributing bars

The new trucks come with one under the back seat. Looks like it will need longer pins.. Thats cheaper than a new hitch...

I'm on my second one! I rarely tow anything, but one of the few times I did, I pulled the ball mount out, walked away and forgot about the adapter.....until a few days later! I don't have a clue as to where it fell out.
