Transmission woes

09 December 2017 - 11:19 PM

On my way home from MT Hood today I noticed that the car was pulling to the left real bad, then there were 2 bangs and it was like I dumped the clutch and then the engine bucked real bad. Pulled over and looked things over, nothing caught my eye. So I go to take off and bang again. 1st and 2nd are no goes, I think the diff must have come apart and it would lock up when it wants to. So I'm looking again for another trans. And the thing is this trans came out of the TDI I just bought, so much for that idea.

This comes with the full metal jacket side covers. It it used, has some scrape marks on the bottom. You will need to source 7 rivnuts for the install.
These are about $370 new.

Will sell for $190+ a large stack of pancakes. Delivery is extra if needed...gas only.

I will get it cleaned up and take some pictures.

This will fit Golfs, Jettas and Beetles.

Riddle me this...

What's long and black and has teeth?

The first thing I always do with a new to me VW is change the belt, water pump, tensioners and any seals on the front of the engine. Now I haven't kept any long enough to have to change them again ( except in the case of a failure ) but I noticed that the book call for a new belt every 40k. I can see 60-80k but 40? I use to change the belt on my track car every other track day just because it was cheap insurance. So what's really necessary? I can see pulling the cover off once a year to have a look.

TDI Beetle...

29 November 2017 - 04:06 PM

Coming home with me on Saturday. The price, well all I can say is gas and a tow dolly rental. It a 01, silver, basically it's a clone of my 99 gasser. So I will be busy switching out all of my good new parts on mine to the new TDI. I will then sell mine to fund a new engine build. So if everything works out right I will be into the new TDI for no money out of pocket. I should be driving it in 4 months. I know, I work slow but I have other vehicles that are in line ahead of mine.
