#647232 first dead wobble.

Posted by Packards42 on 23 August 2017 - 07:58 PM

Yesterday I heard a pop/snap in the parking lot at Lowes making a hard right turn.  Steering jump to 2oclock position and was real mushy 0n  the righthand turns  driving home.  I thought I jump a tooth in the steering box or broke it..

Then this morning,  I hit a bump while the road was turning to the right, I was making a 50 mph turn to the right,   and WOW.

Contacted  Bill at Source,  he gave a list to items  to check.  On my home I stop by  the old local mechanic that works on my son's 79 Camaro to see if his lift was free.   No lift,  he jump under the truck, and saw where the 3rd generation track bar was mount was slipping back and forth like a 1/2 inch.  upon closer inspection:   I snapped  a 9/16 high strength bolt at the maximum leverage point on the track bar mount .  Some hunting around at the speed shop across the street from the old mechanic and his guys found a correct diameter bolt,  then installed. and all back to normal.

Waiting for a complete bolt kit to replace all the bolts on the mount ASAP/

God was good to me this morning.

Nice install, I real like the axle mount air bags, much simpler that the spring mount one I just installed.  That remote looks sweet.

#627282 First impression with Firestone ride-rite air bags

The truck seems to behave better, the bags are empty technically, but the truck seem to corner smother & flatter,  and rides smoother thus far too.  I running new Rancho 9000 shocks  set on 5 in the rear and 7 in front. I was just about ready to soften the numbers, but coming home from town a little while ago, I did not notice the normally bumpy uphill section on the street out of town or the gravel road to our property like before.

thanks,  I have never high temperature seize,

Thanks for helping me.

One of tightener look loose, so I sure it need lube on the threads.

Gave the tighteners wash  about 3/4-1  turns,  and now the emergency brakes and does not go to the floor either,

It funny, when I was in my 20's I did all my own work, and only had one car, I remember walking nearly a half day to the part shop.  Now I take in for most thing.  But being retired I have a lot of time on me hands now.
