A good day on the water

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was our 34th Annual Vancouver Firefighters fishing derby for active and retired members.

It was a very early wake up time of 3 a.m.

Was on the water by 6 in Vancouver.

The weather really cooperated and the wind stayed away all day.

The winner was a 21 lb Chinook, only a dozen or so salmon weighed in.

I managed to actually catch a 12 lb Chinook.

Had a good time at the weigh in seeing all my old friends and hearing tons of stories from everyone.

As firefighters we unfortunately inherit one of the highest rates of several forms of cancer.(job related)!

I was very sad to hear of at least 8 more guys fighting for their lives with serious forms of this horrible disease.

A few of them made it out to the derby and were helped or carried wherever they needed to go.

No matter the illnesses these guys are enduring, a fantastic day was had by all.

I never came home with any big prizes, but Mike my fishing partner and friend won the fundraising raffle of a new Honda 9.9 electric start longshaft

with all the bells and whistles..

Some guys have horseshoes up the butt.I never win anything!

He won the same motor 3 years ago!

Oh well, we raised over $ 8,000 which was split between The Burn Fund and local salmon enhancement!

This little fellow put up a good fight. A few jumps and good pull.
Fortunately the seals were far away at the time..

Not an Islander. I prefer the Trophy XL QC.. Large arbor reel that has out performed everything else.

I have not been let down with it.

Ha ha Dave beat me by 5 seconds...

The trophy reels seem to be preferred by a lot of guys now compared to the Islanders...

Many guides are extremely pleased with the endurance and cost savings..
