Mounting a new ham radio in truck

Recommended Posts

Well, figured I better ask... Have any of you mounted a radio(CB or VHF) in your new style trucks(2012 and newer)?

I have always had a small 2 meter radio in my truck as I am a ham radio guy.

More truckers and back road drivers have gone to VHF radios now as they out perform CB’s.

I have a new Kenwood TM281-A to go into the new truck. Same as my 97 but newer production model.

I was very pleased with that model, became very proficient at working on the internals under the mentor ship of

some fine gents at Abbotsford Amateur Radio Club.

Trying to get it mounted tucked away and not hanging in my face.

Any options are welcome.

I'm waiting too...

I was thinking about mounting my Yaesu FT-8900 like this since it has a removable face.

But my DMR rig doesnt have a removable face....  Not sure what to do about that.

I have looked at mine hard trying to figure out where I would put a radio and I cant find anyplace that would not be in the way of something. I have the fixed center console in mine so other than cutting it up or mounting on the passenger side and letting whoever sits there deal with it I don't know.

The only real option I can find is one that all in the mic.

I might return the radio I have in favor of one with a removable face plate...

I have that same center console Hoss, I was thinking about a temporary radio stack that sat inside of the console, using some UHMW, where I could tuck the wires under the seat when the radios werent in the truck.  Steve - I have an extra very low use FT-8900 that I may part with.  10m, 6m, 2m, and 70cm.

There are a couple of places I can mount a Kenwood TM 281A. They are pretty small, but the yaesu 8900 are nice with the relocation kit.

Decisions decisions....

Plus a Kenwood 281A is less than $140.00

Im getting a headache.
