Baby's getting new shoes!

Recommended Posts

While replacing the NOX sensor in my truck I had to remove the passenger side front tire, when I took the tire off I noticed what looked like a quarter stuck to the tread right in the middle of the tire. It wasn't a quarter it was what is left of the head of a huge bolt or screw stuck in my tire! I came to Les Schwab after work and when they removed it they said they can't plug it the hole is too big ( yeah I know the story of my life)

So a new set of 285 75R 18 Toyo AT2's are going on right now. My feelers are not badly hurt I hate those highway tires that were on it anyway.

They are just under 3" taller than the continentals that I took off. I measured them side by each

Those tires look so much better. They look very close to the tires I have on the blue mule. I just don’t remember what they are. I know they aren’t Tokyo’s. I love the tread pattern I bet you will be very happy with those.

They are the same tires that are on the 02 I have been using them for a while. They last much longer than the Toyo MT's I used to use. Ride great and very quiet

I have I think over 45,000 miles on those tires on my 04.5.    I have Duratracs on my 2017.   The Duratracs great in the snow and wet roads.   They don't balance that great though.

I owe Mark Smith a huge thank you for helping me out with tire sizes. I wasn't sure how tall or wide I could go since I have not added leveling springs yet (they are coming soon) and I honestly didn't get the way the 265 60R or 305 75R thing worked

I thought I knew but I had it wrong. Mark told me what he had on his truck and I started throwing numbers at him and he would say "no that's not taller its wider" :hit:

Thanks to him I was able to get the tire I wanted and I don't have to worry about it rubbing. I am not too proud to admit I aint the sharpest knife in the drawer. I always thought the first number was height and the second number was width

It is if you're not talking metric sizing.

Width/percent of width as sidewall height x2 plus wheel size.

I much prefer 37x12.50-18 :right:

Hey Mark

what does 235/80/17 mean?

17 is the wheel size it will fit, how’s the rest of it equate?

thanks

As far as I understand, 235mm wide. 80% of sidewall ratio. (235x.8) times two. 376mm

So. 376mm total sidewall height is about 14.8”

235mm is about 9.25 “

That tire should be 31.8 tall, 9.25 wide on a 17 wheel.

Your favorite tire calculator website can see if I’m close.

How does that change the accuracy of your speedo? Is there a gear change in the cable connection to make the speedo accurate again like they used to or is it an electronic input with a computer?

Speeding tickets are no fun!!

It can be fixed in the ABS section of the computer on 3rd gens, I suspect it is similar on later trucks.

2019 and newer are a different animal

when it comes to recalibrating. Some use a tuner. New car dealers don’t like doing that and if its not adjusted several issues can occur.

It's Boat Trailer sizes that confuse me.

I'm going from a 14" wheel to a 15" wheel.  So I need to be concerned about overall diameter of the wheel and tire.

Current 14" is a 205/75R14  Which I believe is a 26"x 8"

So I need a 205/70R15 which if I'm doing this right would be 26.3 x 8.1

But I'll be damned if  can find that size so it looks like I'll be doing a 205/75R15  which is 27.1 x 8.1 pretty sure I have enough clearance between tire and wheel.

Mark Smith, am I doing this right?

Hoss I like the tires you chose.

215/65-15 is 26x8.5

215/70-15 is almost 27x8.5

235/60-15 is 26.1 x 9.25
