2nd & 3rd Gen Parking Brake Adjust

Recommended Posts

On the ‘02 trucks with rear discs, and pretty sure also at least 3rd gens, how do you go about adjusting the parking brake star wheel?  Do you pull the wheel, caliper, and rotor to access it or do you leave all of that on and pull the dust boot and do from the backing plate with a brake spoon?  I see different methods being used.  I do know that the driver’s side starwheel is a bitch to access since it’s on top and near suspension components.  I’m having trouble holding my truck on my steep uphill driveway.  I’ve noticed it getting worse and worse so want to adjust it to hold better when I get home in a few days.

I take it off to both inspect it, confirm which way to turn the star wheel, and to get it close. The star wheel access is really limited by the spring s.

I realize that but from everything I’ve read, the driver’s side is a real bear to access due to it being on top.  I will give it a go before I pull the wheels, calipers, and rotors.

Its no sweat, just position your body opposite when doing either side.

B.T.W. drivers side tightens upwards and passenger side downwards.
