My neighbor dodged a bullet!

My neighbor has a 2008 Ford with only 36,000 miles on it. Very well taken care of. We deleted it last year and he loves it.
A couple days ago he and his wife were over getting some hay and they were in a huge hurry to get going to play on the new side by side they just bought.
Soon after I see his truck pull out with the side by side on the trailer.
I jumped on the tractor to till the garden and when I got I noticed my phone going crazy. I had 3 calls and a couple texts from him. I called him and he told me he had put gas in his truck by mistake. He had friend put his truck on a tow dolly and wanted to bring it to my place. I said of course and they showed up about 20 minutes later.
We put it on the lift and dropped the tank and pumped it out and let the return line bleed out.
He pulled up a schematic of the fuel system and instructions on how to flush the entire system. We did what they said and used a 5 gallon bucket of red fuel so we could see when we got diesel through.
Using a vacuum pump we drew most of the gas out then with the system primed he unplugged the necessary wires to keep the injectors from firing and we cranked the starter till bright red deisel came out the return line.
At this point the filters were changed and more red fuel run through.
Once we were sure all the gas was gone we fired it up and it started right up and idled well. He took the truck out and drove it. Freeway speeds no problems, no codes and it runs great.
I don't know about the possible long term damage to injectors or injection pump but we will see. Compaired to the several thousand dollar quotes he got from a couple shops (and one we can flush it and get running for $600.00 we do it all the time) from a shop I question the integrity of. I am confident it was a bait and switch
"well we tried but no dice you need a new pump and injectors now."
I hope this fix lasts!
