Re-using 12V head bolts

Recommended Posts

Sooo, this is an old school question. I have two sets of head bolts (only used one time). I'm going to use bolts when the new head goes on the '96. What the recommended method for using these? Oil the threads? Torque to 100ft-lbs in 25lb increments? I think I remember reading something like that years ago.

Thanks,

Mike

Do you plan on keeping it? I reused mine on my 97 one time, I torqued them like normal.

It'll be gone the day after I get it together. But it's going to a good friend and needs to be reliable.

If you buy your gasket set from cummins, in the box will be a gauge for you to test the bolts for stretching.

Maybe with the full top end gasket set. I bought my head gasket from Cummins NW, no gauge.

125ft-lbs today with a drop or two of oil. One bolt kept turning, replaced it and all is well.

Should bolts and no o-rings be re-torqued like studs and o-rings?

Thanks
