  1. You guys were right on,it was a link, but not easy to find.Nothing was visible from the outside of the wire but tested all links with my test light and one sure enough was dead. It broke just inside the black rubber junction where all the links connect to the bat.I only figured that out by pulling on the dead wire and it stretched there at the face of the rubber thingie. It looked like a vibration break, hooked it back up, didn't heat, everything worked for several starts etc, turned on the key again later and the link smoked within seconds. I wonder if it doesn't have something to do with the
  2. Thanks for the information, will check that out this am. I have not worked on the truck lately, no wiring etc, it just tweaked and fortunately on my road what luck for sure.I just came back from Idaho last week could have happened there or on the way home...wow! The power is out to almost everything like I mentioned, except headlights, dome light and 4 way flashers, haven't checked windows but nothing else works, no gauges dash lights etc. I'll jump the starter and fuel solenoid and get it out of the road/rain this am and check all the stuff. I did a search and someone had a similar problem wit

  4. Hi All, Been about a year since I posted anything but need some advice from the experts. My low mileage 93 just quit as I was driving up my long driveway as if I shut off the ignition switch, a loss of elec. Power to almost everything important? Tested all fuses batt connections grounds etc, all good. The ignition turns on the heater fan, dome light works, head light bright, no radio,no blinkers,no starter,no fuel solenoid etc, no manifold heater solenoid, gages etc. virtually everything dead. I notice a series of relays in the manual and one for auto shut down? What in the world is that al

  6. Hi, Is there an expert on the first gen cruise control out there. I am having some problems with my 93 and don't even want to take it to a garage, so any help would be most appreciated. I am pretty handy with wiring but have never been into a cruise control. Guess I'm gonna learn, huh. I can set the speed ok but the throttle settings won't always compensate for hills etc. It does work as it should about half the time, and column controls work fine then. For that reason I am thinking that the problem is somewhere other than in the steering column? In the 7 years I have owned the tru
  7. It shuts off fine. That would be a hoot if it wouldn't quit too. It's pretty classy as it is now , lifting the hood to start with a jumper wire and would be even better if I had to stop it by pulling the solenoid wire. All the girls would really like me then. Maybe someone will feel sorry for me and give me money? It must be the ignition if there is no other nonsense between the ignition switch and solenoid. Ive had the contacts go bad in Gm ignitions switches and do the same thing. Thanks, John
  8. Hi All. My truck wouldn't start this am so I tested the obvious and found no power to the solenoid wire when key is in start position. starts fine with a jumper. all fuses are good too. So I guess it's the ignition switch if there is not some fusable link or other oddity in the circuit? I'n not familiar with the wiring on this rig and have no wiring diagram, better get one I guess. Is there something I have missed here? Thanks in advance for your time, John
  9. Hi All, Cascade in Marysville puts together an affordable non lockup converter for the for the old dodges,5-959LF. I have used thier stuff in the past with no problems, but never for a Diesel. These supposidly lower the stall by 600 rpms. I know the lower stall converter are a winner but was wondering If you guys have used these units with good luck? Thanks for the help, John
  10. Hmmm, sounds to me like you like Mark. How are his prices, and yea I know ya get what you pay for. I'll give him a call. Nice shiney parts too, no sense in puting them in the case, too pretty. Thanks for the information, John

  12. Hi all, I am still driving my old 90 and don't see any reason to part with it yet, but like all old things it needs some maintenance. The rear seal is leaking and the trans won't go unless it sits and warms up some. I don't think it's morning sickness clutch pac seals, but seems like the convertoer is not filling fast enough. I have the same problem with my 91, and this has been going on for years. Anyway, when I have the trans out may as well have it rebuilt. Ive noticed on CL someone in Grahm that does these?? Anyone know about these guys or aother reasonable shop. I do some towing
  13. Hi all, I posted a couple days ago regarding the trans on my 90 having seen better days and someone chimed in with a possible replacement a dtt from their 90 and I cannot find the posts, hmmm. Maybe I'd better make my reservation now? Anyway, I could be interested if we can ever touch bases again. So, If you see this give a shout. Thanks, John
  14. I live in Duvall and usually always fill my three Dodges there and have not had a problem before. I did chat with one attendant there and they indicated, no reported problems. In any case it's not a real big deal as no water got to the injection pump. This truck has a pre filter installed on it a napa 3207 that is fairly small. It gets the first assault and is probably good it is there. I'll do the tank r&r this weekend. Sure wish I knew of a bulkhead fitting that could be fitted to the tank bottom?? Interestingly, I was in Idaho last fall, filled up at Cenex in Hayden (differen
  15. The safeway diesel also looks and smells way different than the other stuff. It is light yellow, appears thicker to me and smells way different? I cannot imagine the contaminants coming from a source other than their tank. I drove the truck the prior day and all was fine. It also was fine on the way to the station which is about 7 miles. I suppose it's possible that this was a perfect storm and the water lingering below the pickup in the tank finally got to the pickup?? I kinda of doubt that , but don't know for sure as it has clogged 3 filters so far. My backhoe has a metal tank and wate
