Hey guys.... Need some help here. Back in August of this year I thought my EZ was acting up so I paid Edge $350 & upgraded to a Comp. After installing the Comp without the tap, I still had a slight intermittant miss only while pulling our 5vr over the pass or on a hard pull. Spoke to Rip & he suggested that perhaps the VP was tired at 198k miles. Replaced my VP & my miss was gone & I found power I hadn't had for quite a while! A couple hundred miles after I installed the new pump I tapped the wire & wow, this is awesome! Lotsa power now even with my little 275 injectors...
FAST forward...As the weather started getting cold I started experienciing the problems with my Comp not wanting to power up. I spoke to Edge & they said they had a software cure for this & to send it in. I did, got a updated Comp from them & it didn't solve the powering up issue & to compound it, it also sometimes wouldn't even fuel via the tap or otherwise! pukeface.gif I spoke to Edge again on Monday, told them this was ridiculous & to send me a frickin EZ as the last one I had was trouble free.
I received the EZ today via UPS, hooked it up & WHAM!! CEL came on & truck went into limp mode! WTF?? I drove over to my bros house, plugged his Smarty in & it read "Low voltage at MAP Sensor". Cleared the code, started truck, CEL, Low voltage at MAP Sensor code again! Checked connections, cleared code, WHAM CEL again, same code. Unplugged EZ & returned to stock & cleared code & all is well again but what good is having new injectors when your running 19-20 lbs boost with no timing & fueling provided electronically?

I NEED A FUELING & TIMING BOX RECOMMENDATION THAT IS NOT RELATED TO EDGE!

Paul has recommended the TST as a GREAT choice. I see many are running the Drag Comp but I'm a bit gunshy of Edge as I think their QC has gone South or perhaps to the Far East! 3 Edge boxes in 4-5 weeks is beyond friggin rediculous in my book! I'm not sure I wanna tap my pump again or not but I would assume you can run the TST like in a EZ type mode? Would that be correct? I wouldn't mind trying the Smarty again but with the auto trans I just don't think I'll be as happy as the stick guys...Opinions please!

Thanks,
Clay

Yeah I've never held Edge products in high regard (but I can't speak from much personal experience).

How about giving a TST a try such as a PowerMax? Not real common but liked by those who had one.
TST Products 24V

Or how 'bout a van Aaken? van Aaken is pretty good stuff, at least seems more refined & durable (at least it used to). vA lists the Smartbox V5 for 24-valves

When my IAT sensor was going out I'd get low voltage on map sensor. BTW it's been 3 IAT's for me. Went to TDR and found a link for you

I have always been happy with VanAaken and I have yet to have any issues with one. I also had Edge products that did not like the cold.

I'll second the old school VA box, had one that was a few years old and was smooth power that pulled awesome. Don't know if you can still find them tho.

That can't be the case for me due to the code going away after unplugging the EZ & going back to stock configuration....But thanks Eric! smile.gif

Dave,
Which TST? PowerMax, PowerMax2, PowerMax3? Are the new boxes good boxes? Seems the older Edge boxes were OK but these new production boxes are having some QC problems...

TST PM3. The only problem I've had is I broke the toggle switch with my foot. It still works but I have to turn it on and off with a pencil... guess I need to send it in.

PM3 with the remote. You can get the digital gauges, but you probably have all those already.

I've got a VanAaken box like this one..
http://austin.craigs.../499330701.html
I like it. Fuels nice down low, and a mpg gain also.
Stupid simple install. No boost fooler...needs to be added seperately.

The TST is fueling only, right? What about timing? Don't say Smarty ohmy.gif

TST is fueling only. For timing, another timing only box is added. Van Aaken, EZ, DDTT, Ect.

I won't say it if you won't.

I almost went with the Van Aaken but decided to give a Comp another try. So far its worked fine. You have a couple connection options with the Van Aaken. One box uses the data port below the pump and the other plugs into the pump harness. They are supposed to offer the same power, but some guys swear by the box with the pump connection. I think the new boxes have boost foolers.

You can also get a new VA box with what they call the "RV File". This program hits harder down low than the normal VAs. Its not to hard to get a new one for under $400. You may have to go through a VA distributor to get one with the RV File.

I'm considering trading off my old (5+ years) drag comp for a Juice/Attitude.... It's got over 100K miles on it with only one trip back to Edge to get dressed in drag. I've never had an issue with it. Keep an eye out at the marketplace.

The original vA (which came out in 1999) didn't have a boost fooler, but they're considered a better fueling box. . . the next vA didn't have as much ooomph. I ran the newer style on my '01 HO for a couple years and while it had nice smooth power delivery, it didn't have as much power as the old one Bob Wagner let me try at the '01 Feb BOMB party.

Vaughn

ps someday you guys oughta learn how to spell "van Aaken" correctly tongue.gif (hint: lowercase "v")

The only problem I have had with my drag comp was one of the LED's would work some of the time. Edge was willing to fix it, and I was willing to let them... Other then that I have about 110K miles on mine.

Having said that, I can understand loosing trust in a product and wanting to look for something else. I have tried a lot of different combo's. Not because I don't like my Comp box, but just because the grass is always greener. I personally don't like the TST. It is a very durable box, and produces fairly good power. My dislike is that it mainly fuels by boost reference. That and the fact that I lost over 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile running it. Just to clairify also the TST is a fueling box and would do nothing if you don't hook up the pump wire. It doesn't have an "EZ mode". For timing boxes there are lots of options. From Power Pucks, to the VA box, and the Quad boxes. From my experience the timing boxes don't vary in performance as much as the fueling boxes do.

I am currently beta testing the Quadzilla Adrenaline box. It has great promises, and runs very well. I do however have a problem recommending anything that is still in beta. It does have a lot of features, and currently makes as much power as my drag comp (based on E.T.'s). The spool up is better then anything I have tried. If you can wait until it goes production, and quality control has been verified, then you might want to consider it as well.

Unplugged the EZ from the bus yesterday. Truck runs MUCH better now that it is just a boost module. This cold weather timing shudder SUCKS. Lost a little snap in the midrange, but top end pull is unchanged..smoke is WAYYYYYY down.

Hope this Adrenaline doohickey is the cats meow like I have been reading!!!
